Families could look to pay out for a high-spend holiday in 2013 after saving up for a few years, ABTA as said.
Its latest Travel Trends Report has found the luxury market to have stayed “healthy” in the last two years and despite continued tight consumer spend forward bookings for winter 2012/13 and summer 2013 are said to have increased for several of the association’s members.
The association has predicted that customers could be more adventurous next year, with tour operators keen to expand their tailor-made and multi-centre offerings.
However 70% of its survey respondents said they are looking for more value and 68% book ahead to secure better deals. More consumers are likely to book through a travel agent (27%) compared to 2011 (25%), with 48% booking a package holiday compared to 42% in 2011.
When looking at where Brits are heading, the report found Spain, Greece, USA and France continue to be popular destinations and will continue to be in 2013. The wet summer and weak euro has favoured travel to Europe while people are likely to hold out booking domestic breaks until they know what the weather is like. For the latter interest in sport, literature, the monarchy and countryside are expected to fuel some domestic trips, while across Europe cruises, train and coach holidays are set to grow in popularity.
Its destinations to watch in 2013 were Brazil, Burma, Croatia, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Finland/Lapland, Greece, Morocco, New Zealand, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Turkey and USA.
