Boeing conducts record-breaking business jet flight
Boeing has set a new world record by flying its B737-700 business jet non-stop between Los Angeles to Auckland.
The aircraft, which was on its way to New Zealand to be fitted with luxury interiors, made the 10,479km trip in 13 hours, seven minutes and 54 seconds.
“When we left Los Angeles with full fuel, we were 21,000 pounds (9,525kg) below our maximum take-off weight. This means that the customer can add a full VIP interior, fill all the seats and still carry full fuel and have remarkable range – something our competitor with the same class business jet simply cannot do non-stop,” said Captain Steve Taylor, President of Boeing Business Jets (BBJ).
The aircraft had 7,800 pounds (3,538kg) of fuel remaining when it landed in Auckland on Sunday evening. Owned by Samsung Electronics, the B737 is equipped with seven auxiliary fuel tanks, giving it the extended range capability.
