Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre partners with Life

This bursary serves as an investment in the people who will shape Queensland's future capability in areas that matter deeply to the local community as well as the global community

As it commemorates its 30th anniversary, the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre announced that it is partnering with Life Sciences Queensland for a bio-innovation bursary.

This initiative seeks to strengthen collaboration throughout the state's life sciences sector and to boost the impact of scientific research.

The announcement was made earlier today, 10th February, at AIME 2026 in Melbourne by BCEC general manager Kym Guesdon and director of sales strategy and partnerships Alison Gardiner.

Hope for a new generation

Throughout its history, BCEC has continuously supported the growth and development of Brisbane and the state of Queensland on several levels.

This new bursary continues that long-standing commitment, serving as an opportunity to support the next generation of leaders in both the national and global bio-innovation sectors.

The BCEC and LSQ Bio-innovation Bursary specifically supports mid-career researchers who are at a pivotal point in their careers where the right support could have powerful, long-reaching impact.

According to Guesdon: "The bursary focusses on strengthening research and industry collaboration, supporting researchers looking to translate their discoveries into real-world outcomes, either in health, medicine, agriculture or energy, or in bio-innovation."

Indeed, the bursary serves as an investment in the people who will shape Queensland's future capability in areas that matter deeply to the local community as well as the global community in their health, longevity, food security, and sustainable growth.

Where LSQ comes into the equation

LSQ is the ideal partner for this initiative, representing over 100 organisations across the life sciences ecosystem.

That said, LSQ plays a pivotal role in policy leadership, industry engagement, commercialisation support and investment interaction.

Currently, Queensland's life sciences sector is strong, growing and globally competitive, and this new bursary adds to that momentum, facilitating researchers to build the industry connections that will fast-track innovation from the lab to market.
