British Airways is to operate flights between Heathrow and Chengdu from September, it has announced.
The carrier will fly three times a week on the route from 22 September 2013 using a four-cabin Boeing 777. It follows the airline’s launch of flights to Seoul, South Korea earlier this month.
“I have visited China on many occasions and last year went to Chengdu to see for myself the progress that has been made at the airport. It is truly impressive and shows vision and ambition,” said Willie Walsh, CEO of IAG. “I am delighted to announce this new route which demonstrates the importance of mainland China to British Airways and our commitment to grow our presence here.”
The carrier will also increase frequencies from Heathrow to Amman, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jeddah, Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro and Toronto in summer 2013.
