Western Lake District is to create tourism ambassadors with a new training course.
Authorities at West Cumbria Tourism have created the course for any member of the public who wants to show support to the area’s tourism and promote it.
It hopes the information will then be passed onto visitors of the region to make them feel welcome and provide knowledge. The first session will be held at Silloth Golf Club on 18 July.
“The You’re Welcome to the Western Lake District training programme is perfect for every business in the area that has any dealings with visitors and will give anyone who takes part the best possible chance of influencing those visitors to return,” said Alan Oliver, secretary of Silloth Golf Club. “You only get one chance to make a first impression and this course couldn’t have come at a better time for us as we prepare to welcome over 400 golfers plus their families for the English Golf Union’s English Amateur Open Championship at the end of July beginning of August”.
Tourism generates £4 million a year to the region’s economy.
