CASA removes Tiger Airways restrictions
Tiger Airways Australia has been issued with a new Air Operators Certificate (AOC) by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia (CASA), without any restrictions.
The airline had previously been operating on an AOC with conditions imposed, following the grounding of Tiger’s entire Australian fleet in July 2011 due to safety violations.
“This is a significant milestone for Tiger Airways,” said Andrew David, CEO of the Tiger Airways Australia. “Over the last year, we have worked hard to ensure that Tiger is second to none for safety, reliability and punctuality. Today’s news reflects our close working relationship with CASA and ongoing commitment to operational excellence.”
Tiger said it had made enhancements to its Safety Management System and that it now meets all of the requirements set by Australia’s safety regulator. It will now be able to operate at full capacity, following 14 months of limited services which forced it to close its base at Adelaide airport. Tiger now operates services from Melbourne and its newly-launched base at Sydney airport.
“Tiger Airways Australia will continue to work closely with CASA as the airline now focuses on achieving its commercial goals,” concluded David.
