Cathay launches Inter-School Aviation Challenge Cup

Cathay has successfully hosted its first Inter-School Aviation Challenge Cup, a new initiative aimed at fostering aviation enthusiasm among Hong Kong's youth. The event, held on 25 January at the Hong Kong Palace Museum, saw secondary school students compete after qualifying through Cathay’s AeroQuiz platform, which has engaged over 760 participants from 90 schools. Christian Alliance S. C. Chan Memorial College emerged victorious, securing a spot in the Cathay I Can Fly Youth Academy.

The competition featured four preliminary rounds, with top teams advancing to a finale. Remaining teams participated in a STEAM-based aircraft building challenge. Cathay's Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, Lavinia Lau, expressed hopes for the event to become annual and expand to the Greater Bay Area. "By making aviation education more engaging, accessible, and rewarding, initiatives like CISACC provide young people with a platform to build confidence, broaden their horizons, and pursue their ambitions," Lau stated.

Chief Flight Standards of the Civil Aviation Department, Captain Lawrence Wong, highlighted the event's role in nurturing future aviation talent. "The Cathay Inter-School Aviation Challenge Cup provides a valuable platform for young people to deepen their understanding of the aviation industry," he said.

The AeroQuiz platform, launched by the Hong Kong Youth Aviation Academy in June 2025, continues to attract participants, with the next CISACC scheduled for later this year. This initiative, alongside the Cathay I Can Fly programme, underscores Cathay's commitment to youth development and the aviation sector's future.
