Club Wyndham Shirakabaso Shiga Kogen reopens following extensive refurbishment

The refurbishment was a major project that began in the first summer season after the resort’s rebranding

Japanese ski resort Club Wyndham Shirakabaso Shiga Kogen unveiled the dazzling  results of its multi-million-dollar refurbishment in Nagano today, 9th December.

This endeavour has transformed the property into a premium, year-round destination that will appeal to both intrepid travellers and ski buffs.

According to Travel + Leisure Co senior vice-president for operations Warren Cullum: “This transformation was a strategic investment in the quality of our club members’ experiences in one of the world’s best ski destinations. By elevating every touchpoint, we’re ensuring that the alpine stay for our Club Wyndham members is not only comfortable but truly unforgettable.”

The refurbishment was a major project that began in the first summer season after the resort’s rebranding and 2024 acquisition by global firm Travel + Leisure Co.

Currently, over 60,000 members of both Club Wyndham South Pacific and Club Wyndham Asia can access the property through their respective clubs.

Refreshed and renewed

The resort’s 32 rooms have been upgraded with fresh paint, new furniture, soft furnishings, and fixtures in line with a fresh design brief.

That said, the room’s interior design balances traditional Japanese style with modern minimalism, using natural wood throughout to create a warm, earthy atmosphere.

Guests can enjoy the tranquility of traditional tatami mats paired with contemporary Western bedding, a hybrid design that appeals to international travellers seeking cultural authenticity and familiar comfort.

The resort’s restaurant has also been revitalised, now offering a traditional Japanese and international buffet for breakfast and dinner during peak season, with a pre-set buffet available throughout the rest of the year.

Guests can also enjoy the pizza bar, which will offer convenient ski-in/ski-out access during the ski season.

A new whiskey bar, featuring locally produced sake, Japanese whiskey, and craft beers, is set to open just in time for ski season, providing a stylish spot for après-ski relaxation.

The resort’s onsens (hot springs) and common areas have also been upgraded for enhanced comfort and ambiance.

For those avidly seeking slopes

Ski enthusiasts will appreciate the upgraded ski shop, now equipped with state-of-the-art demo skis, snowboards, and professional repair services to meet all slope-side needs.

The lobby shop will offer a curated selection of locally produced snacks and beverages, as well as essential ski gear, ensuring guests have everything they need for their winter adventure.

This snow season, the resort will have English-speaking professional ski and snowboard guides on site, ready to assist both beginners and advanced riders.

Guests are encouraged to book a guide early in their stay to explore the slopes that best suit their skill level, interests, and preferred style.

Club Wyndham Shirakabaso Shiga Kogen gives guests access to 15 ski areas directly via gondolas, lifts, and ski courses, while three additional ski areas require a short transfer by bus or car.
