YAANA Ventures’ story begins in 1993, with founder Willem Niemeijer’s idea to provide a one-stop travel company for those wishing to experience an off-the-beaten track alternative across Thailand and Indochina. His vision is to create a new kind of company: one where sustainability is the all-encompassing motivation for success, rather than just one more lofty goal printed on a forgotten and unused mission statement.
Over the next decade, Willem’s destination management company, Khiri Travel evolves from startup to small business but continues to carry its founder’s DNA. Intrepid foreigners join hands with entrepreneurial locals to craft authentic experiences that delight tour operators and travel agents in Europe and North America. Yet a restless spirit soon beckons Willem to expand his vision further, and Khiri Travel breaks ground in Myanmar, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and the Maldives in quick succession.
As the dust settles on the latest expansion, a new thought takes shape. A new company built on the same vision and values, yet different in ambition and audacity. A company of fellow travellers, of travel and hospitality entrepreneurs with the same passion but a need for the experience and wisdom of those that first forged a new trail. A new journey for all to share.
Our vision is to build a dynamic organization that champions the triple bottom line – People, Planet, Profit – and enhance and expand entrepreneurial travel and hospitality businesses across Asia. The values are the driving force behind each of our ventures. While each venture may have a different mission or focus on a different part of the sustainability in their region, we all share core values in all of our ventures included Khiri Travel, Anurak Community Lodge, GROUND Asia, Cardamom Tented Camp, Visama Lodge, HMP Master and Naruna Retreats.
