The Department for Transport has excluded business travel from the Flight Plus ATOL arrangements in new draft regulations. The industry had been opposed to the original proposal, which would have meant thousands of business travel arrangements requiring ATOL protection.
Today’s revelation, on top of the implementation push-back announced last week, has been welcomed byABTA.
“We are delighted that the Government has taken these steps to ensure that business travel is exempt from ATOL,” said Mark Tanzer, chief executive of ABTA. “ATOL is about protecting travel arrangements for consumers, businesstravel arrangements do not need this protection”.
He added the association isdue to meet with the DfT and CAA to receive more clarity on certain aspects andpush for airline involvement.
