Fifty divers recently took part in a coral planting exercise in Sabah’s east coast district, Malaysia. Held under Astro Kasih’s Beautiful Malaysia programme, the divers planted 777 individual corals at Ribbon Reef in Tun Sakaran Marine Park near Bohey Dulang Island. The group was praised by Malaysia’s tourism minister, Dr Ng Yen Yen, who said their efforts would help boost tourism after many coral reefs were damaged by bleaching. According to the Star newspaper, the feat earned them a place in the Malaysia Book of Records after their effort eclipsed the existing record of 501 individual corals planted last year.
