Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport will be operational again within weeks. The city’s second airport, which is primarily used for domestic services, was shutdown to due flooding late last week when government attempts to control the floodwaters gave way. The airport’s runways, taxiways and terminal have been swamped by waters one metre deep, and the extent of the damage to infrastructure and power supplies will not be clear until waters have receded. Speaking to the Bangkok Post, the airport’s Acting General Manager Prateep Wichitto said; “You are probably looking at more than 20 days after the floods dry up to get the airport back on its feet.” In the meantime Nok Air and Thai Orient Airlines will continue to operate out of Suvarnabhumi Airport.
