
The research, undertaken by Slingo, compiled a list of European cities that can be travelled to within two hours. They looked at the ticket price for each city by train from London to each of these European cities – to reveal the quickest European trips from the UK.

The cheapest trains from London to European destinations are both Brussels (£29) and Paris (£29). This gives you a bit of choice for your trip. In Brussels’ viewing the city’s street comic murals or the quirky Atomium, designed in the form of an iron crystal magnified 165 billion times. Or visiting Paris’ iconic landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame or the Louvre to visit.
The third cheapest is Cologne at (£59.63) Cologne Cathedral. The city is home to plenty of must-see sights, such as the Cologne Cathedral, now a UNESCO site, with its gilded shrine of the Three Kings.
