Tourisme Dordogne has embarked on a new strategy to promote its region to the UK travel trade.
New trade initiatives from the tourism board include a sales manual and events, which saw the first held in London last night (21 Feb).
Speaking to Travel Daily, Christophe Gravier, director at Tourisme Dordogne said he had been developing the strategy since he joined in 2011.
“English people know of the Dordogne but not many know it well or how it is different to other French regions,” he explained. “We have been doing roadshows for 10 years in the US and Asia but England is the top market for international travellers in classified hotels and it is important for our representatives to introduce and promote their product to UK agents.”
Last night’s roadshow included 11 regions, hotels and other partners, which hope the event will help them create more packages with UK trade partners and feature in more programmes next year.
In 2012 the region saw a 6% rise in UK tourists, mostly made of the VFR market but with plans to increase leisure visits.
