Dr Chiranjeevi takes charge

Dr K Chiranjeevi has taken charge as the Minister of State with Independent Charge for Tourism in India.
The new minister is seeking the cooperation of cinema stars in promotion of ‘Incredible India’ brand. Addressing the media, Dr Chiranjeevi said, “India has a vast tourism potential with its variety of flora, fauna and monuments which is yet to be exploited to its maximum. We will discuss bottlenecks and constraints in the development of tourism infrastructure with various other Ministries.”
Referring to the threefold increase in the 12th Plan outlay for tourism, the minister said this will go to a great extent in providing jobs for approximately 2.5 crore people in the country. “The present share of India in international tourism is very low and we should strive hard to increase it up to at least one percent,” he added.
Dr Chiranjeevi began his acting career in 1977 has acted in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Kannda films. He is a member of the Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh since April, 2012 and has been bestowed with the civilian honour of Padma Bhushan in 2006.
