easyJet will move its Manchester airport operations from Terminal 3 to Terminal 1 tomorrow. The move comes as a result of the budget airline’s growth at the hub, which has seen it treble the size of its Manchester-based fleet and add 20 new routes since launching at the airport in 2008. This has included the addition of five new routes this year.
Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK commercial manager said; “We’re thrilled to be marking our growth at Manchester by moving our ever-expanding operation to the airport’s flagship terminal. The move will improve the experience of easyJet passengers flying from Manchester and allow us to continue our programme of expansion.
“Our commitment to Manchester is a direct result of the incredible level of support we have received from customers since our launch here three and a half years ago and we intend to continue to invest in the northwest to provide passengers in the region with easy and affordable access to a wide range of business and leisure destinations.”
To celebrate the move to T1, easyJet’s new special edition orange plane – painted to mark the airline’s 200th aircraft delivery – will land at Manchester airport on 30 November.
Andrew Harrison, Manchester airport’s managing director commented; “easyJet has rapidly grown its presence at Manchester Airport and after just three and a half years has established itself as one of the most prominent airlines based here, with a comprehensive network, which provides the region with access to a number of key European destinations including the recently added routes to Berlin and Madrid.
“The move to our flagship terminal creates extra potential for future easyJet growth at Manchester and enables it to further continue its focus on business travellers in addition to serving the leisure market,” he added.
Manchester Airport’s Terminal 1 has recently spent £14 million on a new security area and also features ‘E-gates’ which allow passengers with biometric passports to undergo facial recognition scanning in an effort ease waiting times.
easyJet currently flies to 26 destinations from Manchester Airport including the recently launched flights to Berlin, Belfast and Madrid.
