In a bid to enhance the safety standards in airlines, an Integrated Management System (IMS) was the focus of a discussion during a workshop in Abu Dhabi. The event was hosted by Etihad Airways on behalf of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
The three-day event provided officials from IATA and a number of its airline members an opportunity to exchange views on importance of IMS to enhance safety standards of airlines.
The introduction of this system would help to ensure compliance with global regulations, including IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) and International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) annexes. This was also consolidation of key airline management systems to create a single platform that covers areas such as health and safety, security, environment and personnel.
Paolo La Cava, Etihad Airways vice president, corporate safety and quality, said: “Safety is our number one priority. The global airline industry is making considerable progress in establishing an Integrated Management System which will enhance risk mitigation and assessment of operational hazards. The adoption of these systems will lead to a reduction in duplication and costs, an increase in efficiency and profitability, and elimination of any conflicting responsibilities.”
