EVA Air has transport four of koalas from Australia to Taiwan. The special flight departed Brisbane on 22 October, carrying the marsupials to Taipei using a Boeing 747-400 combi aircraft with expanded cargo space.
The koala quartet travelled with conservation staff and vets, who regularly checked their well-being during the flight. The EVA flight crew also adjusted temperature, humidity and light levels to limit the furry creatures’ stress levels.
The transit of the four koalas follows EVA’s carriage of red-crowned cranes from Japan in September, and giant pandas from China in 2008. The koalas, which were gifted to Taiwan by Queensland’s Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, will now be house at Taipei City Zoo.
