The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has assured that the Centre will adopt a fast track route for necessary clearances of Navi Mumbai International Airport. The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Prithviraj Chavan and Civil Aviation Minister, Ajit Singh met in New Delhi yesterday to discuss the impending project.
Singh informed that the Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure (CCI) has to look into the legal aspects including the bid document, contractual liabilities, infrastructural and environmental issues before giving go ahead to the project.
“The Centre is aware of the progress made towards the project by the Maharashtra Government on environmental clearance, shifting of EHV transmission lines, rehabilitation and resettlement of affected people, connectivity, land development scheme and land acquisition,” Singh said in a official release by PIB.
The meeting between the two ministers also discussed issues such as economic regulation and traffic distribution, ATN/ANS and management of the two airports in Mumbai without operational conflict
The Union Cabinet has already granted in-principle approval for international airport at Navi Mumbai in May 2007. The new airport now falls under priority and is being directly monitored by the Prime Minister Office (PMO).
