FCO launches Egypt travel advice as violence restarts

The Foreign &Commonwealth Office (FCO) has advised travellers to avoid Tahrir Square anddowntown Cairo after demonstrations in the area sparked violence in the city.
British nationals have been advised to avoid crowds and demonstrations, as well as some attractions including the Egyptian Museum within the downtown area.
More than 1,000 people have been injured and at least 23 people are thought to have been killed in the protests, which are said to have erupted when security stepped in Sunday evening in riot gear. Alexandria has also been rocked by protests and the FCO has warned that a high threat of terrorism across Egyptalthough resort areas have seen an increase in security.
It has warned that attacks could take place in public places visited by tourists and told travellers to carry photo ID at all times.
