Traffic on Stena Line’s Harwich-Hook of Holland route has increased in the first six months of the year compared to last year.
The operator has seen passenger numbers increase 1.9% to 4,000 between January to June, with the number of cars up 1.7% to 800. Through a tie-up with Greater Anglia, the number of its ‘dutchflyer’ passengers has jumped 11%.
“Stena Line is very pleased to see efforts to sustain growth on the North Sea route to Holland paying off. We’re acutely aware of the difficult market conditions and have worked smartly to strengthen demand,” said Lars Olsson, general manager for travel on the North Sea at Stena Line.
“We invested more than £375 million (US$587m) in our new North Sea Superferries in 2010 so continued growth is of paramount importance. Stena Line expects the sea transport sector to remain volatile throughout 2012 so will redouble its efforts, notably around the 50th anniversary of the company’s founding, this September,” he added.
