Foreign travellers point out problems with Manila airport

Long queues, smelly toilets, ill-mannered employees, corrupt policemen, dilapidated facilities and lack of amenities are among the long list of complaints by foreign travellers about the Philippines’ main international airport. Ninoy Aquino International Airport is thirty-years-old and efforts to improve infrastructure are underway and long queues could be eliminated by scaling back on unnecessary security checks. Writing for the Manila Bulletin Publishing Corporation, however, local commentators say more must be done to improve the service culture of airport staff. Poor manners and mendicancy are common traits, especially among amenities staff, and could be overcome with better training.
