Travelodge has exchanged contracts to build a hotel in Hackney, London.
The budget hotel chain is to open an 80-bed hotel in the former Gibbons furniture store on Amhurst Road. It is due to open in summer 2014 as part of a mixed use block with serviced apartments and two retail units.
“Whilst the Olympic Games have brought a lot of attention to East London, the long-term business fundamentals for a hotel in Hackney are clear,” said Neil Short, development manager for Travelodge in North London. “Considerable recent investment in public transport, a burgeoning business and cultural environment and a lack of good quality, affordable hotel rooms mean Hackney is a great location for a Travelodge.”
The hotel group now has 56 hotels in London with another 13 under construction or secured. Its suburbs-based hotels appear to have been as popular as its central locations.
