Hospitality Management Holdings ‘HMH’ announced the opening of three new hotels under its brand EWA Hotel Apartments. While two of these – EWA Deira Dubai and EWA Hotel Ajman – are located in the UAE, the third one – EWA Hotel Mahdha – is in Oman (and is expected to open soon).
Michel Noblet, president & CEO, HMH, said: “The mid-market accommodations remain a niche segment with very limited supply against significant demand. Of the vast supply of hotel accommodation of 210,000 hotel rooms in the Middle East region, the budget range accounts for a meager 3000 rooms while mid-scale a mere 11% thus offering massive opportunities. Our strategy is to expand more in this lucrative sector that holds and enormous potential for growth.”
In addition to mid-market hotels, EWA caters in the serviced apartments segment. Michel further added, “Business travellers prefer serviced apartments and this preference is fast catching up by GCC travellers.”
The GCC remains the key source market for the UAE. In 2011 GCC citizens accounted for 1.8 million or 22.5% of the total 8 million guests in Dubai. Substantial growth was recorded in visitors from Saudi Arabia (+56%) and Kuwait (+32%).
