Hotel Indigo Coventry and Hotel Indigo Stratford-upon-Avon have been awarded the Green Key Certification, marking their first year of recognition for environmental sustainability and responsible tourism. This prestigious certification is a testament to their commitment to sustainable operations within the tourism industry.
The Green Key certificate, a leading standard for environmental responsibility, is awarded to establishments that meet the strict criteria set by the Foundation for Environmental Education. Over 4,000 establishments in more than 60 countries hold this certification, which requires adherence to 130 criteria across 13 categories. An independent panel assesses each application before awarding the certification.
Both hotels have established a 'Green Team' to implement initiatives aimed at reducing their ecological footprint. This accreditation signals to guests that the hotels are dedicated to minimising the environmental impact of their stays. Jane Kendrick, Chief Operating Officer from Mission Net Zero, praised the hotels, stating, “Gaining Green Key in their first year is no small feat and reflects the hard work, commitment, and collaboration across the whole team.”
In celebration of this achievement, 100 trees will be planted in Kenya, capturing an estimated 181 tonnes of CO₂ over their lifetime. Scott Rankin, Group Operations Manager at Castlebridge Hospitality, expressed delight at the accreditation, emphasising the importance of providing exceptional service whilst minimising environmental impact.
This recognition is a significant step for the hotels in reducing their carbon footprint and encouraging sustainable choices among guests
