Hyatt GM jumps from roof to open new lounge and bar

Hyatt Regency Bangkok hasย opened its three-level rooftop bar with the general manager hanging high above guests and at the end of a harness.

Itโ€™s not every day that we see a general manager of a hotel jump from the heights of a skyscraper to welcome guests at a new rooftop bar โ€” but Sammy Carolus did just that in Bangkok the other week.

Designed by the Japanese design firm Super Potato, the Hyatt Regency Bangkokโ€™s new Spectrum Lounge & Bar features three different levels with an expansive lounge and intimate spaces.

Given the venueโ€™s name, lighting plays a pivotal role in setting the scene. The study and meeting room also has its own individual stage control, while the lobby space plays with a changing projection that can be adapted to a particular event.

โ€œThis story is told through the design pieces on displayโ€

โ€œThe inspiration behind the new venue is a jet-setting couple, who have created a soulful, welcoming space to entertain guests,โ€ explained Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvitโ€™s GM, Sammy Carolus. โ€œThis story is told through the design pieces on display, ranging from Thai art to musical instruments, and the variety of distinct areas within the venue, like youโ€™d find in a luxury penthouse.โ€

With a total space of 280 square meters (over 3,000 square feet), Spectrum can host 80 guests for indoor gatherings and 295 people when utilising the indoor and outdoor spaces.

โ€œBefore Spectrum, you could not get this type of ambience in Bangkok,โ€ said Super Potatoโ€™s vice president, Norihiko Shinya. โ€œItโ€™s hard to compare this with any other rooftop bar in the area as this type of space is quite special to have in the middle of downtown.โ€
