IAG will launch a new subsidiary airline focusing on short- and medium-haul routes from Spain. Iberia Express will be launched in summer 2012, offering Spanish domestic and European routes. The flights will provide feeder services into Iberia’s main long-haul network.
Iberia Express will initially launch with four Airbus A320 aircraft, featuring both economy and business class cabins. Eventually it will expand to a fleet of 13 aircraft, all sourced from the existing Iberia fleet.
IAG said that the new subsidiary would not affect Iberia’s existing relationships with Vueling and Air Nostrum.
