IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced its largest new-build hotel project in Japan, a triple-branded development near Universal Studios Japan (USJ) in Osaka. The project, set to open in 2029, is a collaboration with Sakurajima Kaihatsu LLC, a consortium led by Kajima Corporation. This marks IHG's first triple-branded hotel development in the country, featuring InterContinental, Kimpton, and Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts.
The new hotels will be strategically located near Asia's most visited theme park, offering guests easy access to USJ and the upcoming Integrated Resort in Yumeshima. The development will comprise 817 rooms and will be the only internationally branded properties in the area. Abhijay Sandilya, Managing Director of IHG Japan & Micronesia, highlighted the significance of this project, stating it represents a "double growth milestone" for IHG in Japan.
Katsunori Ichihashi from Kajima Corporation expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, noting that the collaboration with IHG will enhance visitor experiences with iconic hotels and a vibrant riverfront scene. The project aims to attract more visitors by introducing new infrastructure and attractions.
The hotels will complement IHG's existing portfolio in Osaka, which includes InterContinental Osaka and voco Osaka Central. The development is part of a broader expansion strategy, with IHG currently operating 57 hotels across 10 brands in Japan and 20 more in the pipeline.
