Indian airlines have continued to experience strong demand for domestic flights in 2015.
According to the latest data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Indian traffic (measured in revenue passenger kilometres, or RPK), has jumped 16.7% in the first two months of 2015, compared to the same period last year.
This growth has been achieved despite Indian carriers reducing available seat capacity by 1.6%, which has caused the average seat occupancy of Indian domestic flights, or load factor, to surge to 85.3%.
In fact in February 2015, this average load factor climbed to almost 87%.
IATA said that the rise in Indian domestic traffic, which began last summer, was due to “market stimulation”.
