Indian Himalayan camps reopen for summer

A luxury tent at the Chamba Camp Thiksey

Two luxury tented camps in the Indian Himalayas are preparing to reopen for the summer season.

The Ultimate Travelling Camp’s Chamba Camp Thiksey and Chamba Camp Diskit are both located in the hills of Ladakh, in the north Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir.

The two seasonal camps will start operating on 15 May and will run until the end of September. During this time they will provide a base for high-end exploration in the remote mountainous region, which is home to Buddhist monasteries, glacial rivers and mountain roads. Activities include trekking, sightseeing, cycling and white-water rafting.

The camps’ accommodation includes tents furnished with chandeliers, four-poster beds and wooden furniture, plus en-suite bathrooms with hot showers. They also feature private decks. Other facilities at the camps including an in-house chef, Wi-Fi, a boutique, library and butler service.

The Ultimate Travelling Camp also operates a property in Nagaland, northeast India.
