India’s SATTE 2026 draws record participation

The 33rd edition of SATTE 2026 commenced in New Delhi, attracting over 2,000 exhibitors from more than 60 countries, marking a significant milestone for India's travel and tourism sector. Organised by Informa Markets in India, the event is set against the backdrop of the country's projected $125 billion (US$125 billion) domestic market by 2027.

The opening ceremony featured high-profile figures, including Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, who emphasised India's growing global tourism influence. "India’s tourism movement has clearly arrived on the global stage," he stated, highlighting initiatives like Swadesh Darshan 2.0 and Dekho Apna Desh, which are revitalising domestic tourism.

The event, themed 'An Opportunity Called India', included discussions on topics such as India's MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) readiness and the impact of artificial intelligence on global travel. These sessions underscored tourism's role in economic growth and employment.

Suman Billa, Director General of the Ministry of Tourism, noted the surge in domestic journeys to nearly 3 billion, outpacing supply and creating investment opportunities. Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh's Tourism Minister, Pasang Dorjee Sona, highlighted the state's tourism potential, citing its diverse cultural and natural attractions.

Yogesh Mudras, Managing Director of Informa Markets in India, remarked on the "triple-engine growth" of India's tourism sector, driven by domestic, outbound, and inbound travel. The event also showcased technology-driven innovations and emerging travel segments, reflecting the rapid evolution of India's travel market. As SATTE 2026 progresses, it continues to serve as a strategic marketplace for policy, partnerships, and business opportunities in the tourism industry
