ITA Airways has officially become the 26th member of Star Alliance, the world's largest airline alliance, enhancing its global connectivity. The announcement was made during a ceremony at Rome Fiumicino Airport, attended by ITA Airways CEO Joerg Eberhart, Star Alliance CEO Theo Panagiotoulias, and Lufthansa Group's Dieter Vranckx.
From 1 April, ITA Airways will integrate fully into Star Alliance's network, linking its Rome and Milan hubs with over 1,150 destinations globally. This membership allows customers to benefit from through check-in, reciprocal frequent flyer recognition, and access to Star Alliance lounges, ensuring a seamless travel experience.
Theo Panagiotoulias expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "With ITA Airways on board, we not only expand our network to and from Italy but also elevate the connected experience of our customers." Joerg Eberhart highlighted the significance of this milestone for ITA Airways, noting the expanded international reach and enhanced travel experience for passengers.
The integration was supported by the Lufthansa Group, which holds a 41% stake in ITA Airways. Dieter Vranckx emphasised the collaborative effort, saying, "Together, ITA Airways and the Lufthansa Group are unlocking a joint value proposition that will benefit our customers."
With ITA Airways' addition, Star Alliance now offers over 17,500 daily flights across 190 countries. This expansion strengthens travel options across Italy and Europe, improving connectivity between Southern Europe and key international markets.
