Kashmir Festival to begin from 13 May

As a major initiative to promote tourism in Kashmir Valley, the Union Minister Tourism Dr K Chiranjeevi has announced a fortnight long “Kashmir Festival 2013”.
This festival will be held from 13-29 May 2013 at Srinagar, Pahalgam, Yousmarg, Manasbal, Doodhpathri, Gulmarg, Lolab Valley and Sonmarg. Activities at the festival will include shikara races, cycle races, canoeing, river rafting, paragliding, painting, swimming competition, horse races etc. The festival will also showcase the culture of Jammu & Kashmir through performances by the cultural troupes of the state.
For successful organisation of the festival, the Ministry of Tourism is also coordinating with other ministries including Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Civil Aviation for outlining the concessional fares and tour packages. The Ministry of Culture will organise cultural events through different cultural troupes, and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports will undertake sports activities during the festival.
Industry stakeholders such as hoteliers, guest house owners including House Boats of Kashmir Division have offered a discount of 20-30% as special case for tourists visiting during the forthcoming tourist season.
