The traffic police of Kerala will roll out a new awareness programme titled ‘Shubhayatra’ to curb the increasing number of road accidents in the state. The idea was spurred by the success of Pappu – a perky little Zebra – the mascot of Kerala traffic Police wing. Sbubhayatra will be a long-term initiative aimed at developing a new traffic culture in the state. A special troupe of traffic police will traverse around the state staging dramas to create awareness on traffic rules, with Pappu being the main character. A police official told the Times of India; “Short presentations would be prepared for streaming via radio. FM radio has become an inevitable part of driving these days. Any message spread through radio instantly reaches out to the drivers, which is why we have decided to use radio for the promotion of Shubhayatra.”
