Malaysia Airports expects MYR1.2 billion (US$380 million) in retail sales in the first year from its new low cost terminal. KLA terminal 2 is due to open in October 2012, and airport authorities are urging retailers to work with them to shape new trends in travel retail shopping. The call came at the unveiling of Malaysia Airports new concessionaire partnership model, which promote cooperation between partners to drive airport profitability. According to The Moodie Report, the programme objective is to leverage on the popularity of low-cost travel and transform the terminal into a destination that provides opportunities for leisure, shopping, tourism, business opportunities and employment.
