Korea’s tourism numbers soars

Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) celebrated its 10 millionth tourist.
This was in conjunction with the conclusion of its ‘Visit Korea campaign 2010-2012’. The campaign was launched in 2010 with the objective of boosting inbound tourism and target 10 million tourists to visit Korea before the end of the campaign in 2012.
The campaign focused to develop high-quality tourism products and improve national hospitality services through domestic service improvement, global marketing, special incentive programs and affiliated regional events.
“Social networking sites and online has emerged as one of our biggest marketing tools,” said Sima, PR Manager at KTO.
Elaborating further Korea’s tourism growth, Seunghyun Hwang, the Regional Director at KTO Dubai mentioned that about 10 million travelers had visited Korea by end of November 2012, a 14.9% increase over 2011. For the month of September, Korea received around 91838 tourists, a 19.3% increase over 2011, and from GCC countries around 11054 tourist by September 2012, a 20.1% increase over 2011. UAE got the highest increasing percentage over 32.1% over same period on 2011.
KTO has also rolled out a new online campaign ‘Show us your Gangnam style and win a trip to Korea’ which will be launched later this month.
