A business leader has called on the government to relax strict employment policies in Macau, which is now encountering a labour shortage.
Frederick Yip Wing Fat, President of the Executive Committee of the Association of Retailers and Tourism Services, told the Macau Daily Times that this was limiting the ability of service sector to deliver a top customer experience. “If you don’t open the market for more people to come in, we cannot provide good services and at the end of the day it will hurt the image of the city,” he said.
Yip also called for improvements to the city infrastructure, language skills and family entertainment offerings, which have a serious effect on the city’s reputation. Given the regional competition from Hong Kong, he says these issues require urgent attention if Macau is to be classed as a world-class destination.
