Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) has achieved a new milestone, recording 1.3 million passengers in January 2026, marking a 15% increase from the same period in 2025. This figure represents the highest monthly passenger traffic in the airport's history, highlighting the growing demand for travel to Cebu.
The increase in passenger numbers is attributed to several factors, including the influx of tourists and returning Filipinos for the Sinulog festival, as well as the introduction of new international routes and airline partners. In 2025, MCIA added eight new routes and welcomed airlines such as Jetstar Airways, Vietnam Airlines, Firefly Airlines, and Aero-K, enhancing connectivity and accessibility.
Athanasios Titonis, CEO of Aboitiz InfraCapital Cebu Airport Corporation, stated, "This exceptional start to 2026 is a testament to the growing demand for Cebu as a global destination and a key transit hub." He emphasised the airport's commitment to maintaining momentum by expanding its network and ensuring a positive passenger experience.
Julius G. Neri, Jr., General Manager and CEO of the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority, noted the strong collaboration between the government and private sector partners, expressing optimism for continued growth. MCIA plans further route launches and infrastructure enhancements in 2026 to sustain this upward trajectory.
As the Philippines' second-busiest gateway, MCIA continues to innovate with initiatives like CEBConnects, facilitating seamless transfers for passengers using Cebu as a hub. The airport remains committed to supporting tourism, trade, and national development through strategic initiatives and world-class services
