Malaysia Airports has implemented the latest augmented reality app to its airports – allowing passengers to play games and win prizes while waiting for their flights.
The technology, known as iButterfly, will mean that passengers waiting for a flight can use their smart devices to view images of butterflies flying around the airport terminal. If they’re caught on screen the user will be able to able to win prizes.
The technology, which uses augmented reality, GPS and motion sensing, will give users paperless vouchers that they can then use to spend at the airport.
It has been revealed that almost half of travellers aged 22 and above will use a mobile device at an airport – a statistic that is widely believed to increase over the next few years.
The user will have to download the app and then swing their phone when they see one of the ‘butterflies’ – using their device as a net. Each butterfly will contain a different code.
The app is currently available for iPhones and iPads.
