Malaysia Airlines (MAS) plans to reduce its costs by 7% this year, Bernama reported the airline’s Managing Director and CEO, Idris Jala, as saying. Last year, MAS managed to cut cost by MYR900 million (US$247 million), in addition to MYR738 million in 2007 and MYR668 million in 2006, the report said.
“This year we want to reduce cost further by 7%. We need to do this to survive during this economic crisis. We don’t know how bad it is going to be,” Jala was quoted saying, without divulging which areas of MAS’ business would be affected by the cuts.
