National Express has reported a robust start to 2026, with passenger journeys increasing by up to 32% in January. The UKโs largest scheduled coach operator noted a significant rise in passengers choosing coach travel, particularly on routes to and from Brighton, which saw the highest growth.
Several other routes also experienced notable year-on-year increases. Gloucester recorded a 22% rise, Blackpool saw a 19% increase, and both Gatwick Airport and Swindon experienced a 14% growth. Bristol Airport also reported a 13% increase in passenger journeys.
Javier Martinez Prieto, Managing Director for National Express UK Coach, highlighted the benefits of coach travel, stating, โPassengers are clearly rethinking how they get around the UK, and coach travel continues to offer an affordable and reliable alternative to car and rail travel.โ He added that the growing demand supports more sustainable journeys and helps reduce road congestion.
