NI aerospace supply chain thrives amid global demand

Northern Ireland's aerospace supply chain is experiencing significant growth as global demand for new aircraft and cabin upgrades accelerates. Recent data from industry body ADS reveals an 83% increase in commercial aircraft orders in early 2026, marking the highest February figures in three years. This surge presents new opportunities for Northern Ireland's specialised supply chain companies.

Three companies—IPC Mouldings in Carrickfergus, The Exact Group in Newry, and Bradfor Ltd in Rostrevor—are capitalising on this demand by supplying components and materials to major aerospace manufacturers. These firms have reported robust growth, driven by customer-focused strategies, innovation, and process improvements.

Graeme Bennett, Director at IPC, highlighted the widespread use of their plastic components in over two million aircraft seats globally, attributing growth to retrofit and cabin upgrade programmes. "This reflects our team's expertise and our commitment to sustainable manufacturing," he said.

The Exact Group has also expanded, securing new Tier 1 and OEM clients. Director of Operations Ronan Callan noted their role as certified applicators of Cerakote, an eco-friendly coating aiding net-zero targets. "Advanced coatings have reduced processing time and costs, whilst lowering component weight," Callan explained.

Bradfor Ltd, celebrating 30 years in the industry, continues to supply premium textiles and seat components. Francis McCartan, Product Development/Account Manager, emphasised their reputation for quality and reliability.

These companies will showcase their innovations at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, part of Invest Northern Ireland's trade mission. Bennett remarked, "The rise in aircraft orders signals confidence in the aviation sector, presenting significant opportunities for us." However, he cautioned that maintaining momentum requires addressing supply chain challenges and building resilience
