An event space and members club close to the Olympics site is gearing up to announce its consumer events in the run-up to its launch.
The Fringe, a Victorian warehouse on the riverside in the shadow of the Olympic Stadium, will act as a space for groups to gather during the Games to either watch the events or sample a few drinks after a morning at the stadium. The pop-up members club and events space will be led by ticket sales, with day entry and one-off event tickets available.
Simon Thompson, project manager of The Fringe told Travel Daily it is in the stages of securing corporate events before releasing full details, but some big name bands and DJs, as well as country themed days, will be a part of the venue.
“Originally the warehouse was to be used as a high-end corporate hospitality area with the typical offer but when I joined in December I said we should make virtue of this incredible space,” he explained. “We are not accredited to the Olympics and have no access to tickets but it is 100 metres away from the action and our private dock means boats can come straight to the pontoon”.
Open for six weeks, Thompson said the venue will offer a party atmosphere throughout the Olympic period as “somewhere to hang out and belong to with amazing entertainment; a place to let your hair down”. With only a limited people lucky enough to obtain official Olympics tickets and group bookings not facilitated, Thompson is confident The Fringe can become an area for groups of friends to filter in and out of, whether they have Olympic tickets or not.
“We are pro-Olympic but not defined by it; we are our own people,” added Thompson. “There are a lot of corporate hospitality offering out there that has been done over and over but we will offer an authentic East London experience with a full understanding of food, security, service and the luxury market”.
