Global Travel Collection reports advisors are taking advantage of strong demand for luxury cruising
Global Travel Collection, part of Internova Travel Group has seen a surge in summer 2024 cruise bookings, with the Caribbean, Mediterranean, and Norwegian Fjords topping the list of preferred destinations for luxury travellers. The Caribbean is increasingly a favoured spot for the Christmas period, while the agency anticipates a growing interest in cruises to the Far East and South America from November to February. Global Travel Collection anticipates cruise bookings will significantly boost business for their advisors, with one agent already securing over £1 million in sales during their first year of booking cruises. An independent advisor, Debbie Arnold, who has been booking cruises for over 30 years, has seen a shift in cruise clientele, with it appealing increasingly to all ages. “There is more curiosity for cruising, due to new cruise lines and the ease of visiting multiple destinations in one trip,” Arnold noted. “A significant portion of my cruise bookings are coming from families, which cruises cater very well to. Cruises have so much to offer, including a diverse range of activities and some unique experiences for more adventurous travellers.” She also noted that client preferences were moving towards extended cruise durations, from 7-day cruises to more immersive 12-18 days at sea. “Travellers want more out of their trips, so it makes sense they would want to spend longer aboard. There are itineraries taking passengers on expeditions to destinations such as Antarctica, Galapagos, and other wonderful destinations. Japan is proving to be a popular destination this year in addition to cruises to New England and Alaska.” “My clients are keen to book ahead, and I have had the busiest January for cruises, with bookings as far ahead as 2026,” continued Arnold. “When my clients disembark a cruise, they are often keen to put a deposit down for the next one, so many repeat clients.” Due to the influx of new cruise ships, rising demand for ultra-luxury experiential cruises is also on the rise. Clients are increasingly turning to cruises as an alternative to all-inclusive resorts across an assortment of holiday types, from honeymoons to multigenerational family holidays. Another advisor, Joe Dias, shared that many of his clients are favouring cruises over luxury resorts due to the superior value offered. He emphasises the importance of listening to clients’ needs and having the know-how to determine if a cruise holiday would suit their requirements. “Getting to grips with cross-selling can enhance your ability to diversify sales across land and cruise holidays,” Dias said. “So often, cruise product is overlooked in the middle-luxury market. We are seeing cruise bookings increasing as clients are becoming more receptive to our suggestions, and even looking to replace their traditional resort holidays with cruising,” he continued. My clients have been pleasantly surprised by what luxury cruises have to offer, and the ease of taking a cruise, especially for the larger groups. I’ve seen a significant uptake in bookings recently and even a seven-figure booking for a group with a luxury cruise line.” Vice President of Global Travel Collection, Francesca Mendola said “Many luxury travellers are looking for something different from the traditional all-inclusive resorts. They are curious to experience something new, and ultra-luxury cruising is an experience they want to tick off their list. Small ship cruising has also been popular for luxury clients desiring a more authentic experience.” Mendola highlighted the exponential growth in cruise bookings and remarkable success among advisors. “Recognising the surging demand for cruising, we are dedicated to strengthening our partner relations with cruise lines and providing cruise training for our independent advisors,” said Mendola. “We are poised for an exceptional year with robust growth in the luxury cruise sector. We aim to empower our advisors to diversify their sales and enhance their ability to promote and sell cruises effectively.”

Meanwhile, Caribbean season highlights include Castries on the island of St. Lucia; Puerto Limon in Costa Rica; Gatun Lake in Panama; and Colombia’s magnificent colonial city of Cartagena. Sailing from Miami, Cartagena, New York, Los Angeles, Bridgetown, Panama and Papeete, this impeccable selection of carefully crafted voyages aboard Marina, Nautica, Sirena and Oceania Cruises’ new ship, Vista, is ideal for travellers who dream of sojourns in tropical archipelagos and who wish to explore colonial cities and soak up the laid-back, island atmosphere. Many of these voyages feature memorable daylight passages through the Panama Canal, linking sought-after Caribbean destinations with storied Pacific Riviera ports such as Acapulco, Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Quetzal. With more than 60 immersive ports of call, Oceania Cruises’ carefully planned itineraries invite travellers to experience blissful escapes on delightfully less-travelled islands with the cruise line’s smaller ships able to access boutique ports and yacht harbours in destinations such as Moorea, Raiatea and Rangiroa in French Polynesia, and Barbuda, Dominica and the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean. Sailing with Oceania Cruises is the most relaxing way to visit French Polynesia – an exotic utopia and haven of idyllic beauty and tranquillity. From Tahiti and Bora Bora to the sapphire seas of Moorea, the line’s South Pacific sojourns cover some of the most remote and gorgeous islands in the world, filled with blue lagoons, coral atolls and lingering sunsets. Carrying fewer than 700 guests, Nautica provides an intimate experience for travellers to explore the region, with 10-day itineraries designed to offer a unique flavour of this South Pacific jewel. Coveted Caribbean attractions including St. Lucia’s Pitons, Antigua’s stunning choice of 365 white sand beaches, the blue cobblestone streets of Old San Juan and ancient sacred ruins like Chacchoben and Kohunlich from Costa Maya are on offer. Enjoy a daylight journey through the Panama Canal and visit some of Central America’s most enticing destinations. “At Oceania Cruises, we offer an extensive collection of destination-intensive Tahiti and Caribbean itineraries, allowing our well-travelled and curious guests to discover something new about these popular yet still relatively untouched regions,” commented Frank A. Del Rio, President of Oceania Cruises. “Our carefully curated, diverse range of shore excursions, combined with the relaxing home-away-from-home ambiance on board our boutique ships and The Finest Cuisine at Sea®, offers the perfect luxury vacation choice.” Tahiti Destination Highlights Papeete, on the island of Tahiti, is the capital of French Polynesia, with much to offer visitors, from the Marche de Papeete, the Robert Wan Pearl Museum and the relaxing Jardins Paofai. Enjoy observing the surfers on their longboards as well as local highlights including Faarumai Waterfalls, the Arahoho Blowhole and the Maraa Fern Grottos. On the dreamy island of Nuku Hiva – one of the most remote islands in French Polynesia – visit the entrancing Vaipo Waterfalls and Cascade Tevaipo, one of the world’s tallest falls at over 1,100 feet. Wander the black-sand beaches, marvel at the giant tiki at Piki Vehini or get adventurous on an all-terrain vehicle excursion around the craggy island. On Tahiti’s sister island of Moorea, soak in the breathtakingly beautiful landscapes, from the verdant mountains to the azure seas and white-sand beaches. Enjoy a canoe ride through the crystal-clear lagoon, snorkel, scuba or helmet-dive the reefs, or immerse yourself in nature with a stunning hike up to the Afareaitu Waterfalls. The dramatic Mount Otemanu stands watch over the sparkling turquoise waters and sugary sands of Bora Bora. Choose from a variety of activities including a reef-ringed lagoon tour, jet ski adventures, off-road adventures and a Polynesian day with lunch on a motu – a small sand island. Pure, pristine and dreamlike, the ecosystem of the island of Fakarava is home to extremely rare birds, plants and crustaceans. Quaint villages, old coral churches and welcoming people are intertwined with a spectacular lagoon creating a paradise like none other in the world. The South Pacific atoll of Rangiroa is a natural aquarium with its lagoon brimming with colourful marine life. Highlights include visits to pearl farms, diving with manta rays, exploring the atoll’s unique winery or relaxing on a pink-sand beach. Caribbean Destination Highlights On Colombia’s Caribbean coast, travellers will marvel at the port city of Cartagena. By the sea is the walled Old Town, founded in the 16th century, with squares, cobblestone streets and colourful colonial buildings. Take a scenic drive through the residential area of Manga and admire the beautiful mansions and explore the Castillo San Felipe de Barajas, a fort that was once the most important military structure built in Latin America. The nearby Islas del Rosario and Isla de Barú are a boat ride away offering white-sand beaches and coral reefs. The beautiful freshwater Gatun Lake to the south of Colón has long been a favourite of eco-conscious visitors to Panama. Roughly the size of the island of Barbados, this expansive waterway was created during the construction of the Panama Canal and is now bursting with biodiversity. Wildlife such as sloths, capuchin and howler monkeys, iguanas, and toucans thrive in lush pockets around the lake, and manatee sightings are common. Set off on a safari boating adventure, a canopy tour or even a kayaking adventure to take in the area’s lush flora and unique fauna. Podcast: 5 Outstanding Curiosities of Architect and Designer Bill Bensley
5 Outstanding Curiosities of Architect and Designer Bill Bensley Who is Bill Bensley you may ask? The Bangkok-based architect famous for his design work on one-of-a-kind luxury hotels is just as unique as his work. He has masterminded over 200 properties in 30-plus countries, designed jewellery to save wildlife and puts conservation in high regard. Here are just a few of the outstanding curiosities that are Bill Bensley. He is passionate about conservation So he bought 875,000 trees, 4.5 kilometres of wild river and three magnificent waterfalls, saving it from becoming a titanium mine. Instead, he bought the land that was for sale by government, land that had been designated for logging, and instead created the extraordinary Shinta Mani Wild. It is Cambodia’s most unique tented camp experience, located in the heart of the South Cardamom rainforest. During a stay at Shinta Mani Wild, guests select one of 15 luxury tents – there is one tent to every 66 acres of forest – and not a single tree was cut down in the building process – so guests are well and truly immersed in the greatest of great outdoors. You arrive at the resort via a 400m zipline over the forest canopy, river and waterfalls. Resetting every year He takes one month off every year and heads to Mongolia, with friends and some of his Thai staff, taking them from the urban jungle of Bangkok to the wilderness where they camp Mongolian style, hike, horseback ride, catch and release non-barb fly fish, never seeing another person. During this month they are totally disconnected from the electronic world, no email, phones, internet or social media. Just a total reset of his focus and creativity. This is Bill’s true luxury He understands that education is critical to the planet Along with its partnership with NGO Wildlife Alliance, Shinta Mani Wild and the Shinta Mani Foundation support the local community, teaching Cambodians that conservation is more valuable than extraction through community outreach and environmental education programs – these started long before the camp was built. Shinta Mani Wild employs 120 people, 70% of whom are from the local village. Many were poachers and loggers before the tented camp was built, as this region had little infrastructure and fewer opportunities to work, before Bill. He doesn’t just talk the talk The entire design studios and office, along with his home is “off the grid” during working hours. So, undistracted, Bill, along with his team of up to 100 architects, designers and artists, work in “a phone-free zone.” How refreshing. He is truly a man who walks his talk, not just talks the talk. Can an earring save an elephant? Yes, it can, but only if it is a part of the exquisite ‘Nature’s Treasury’ collection by Australian bespoke jeweller Kate McCoy, and raising money for Wildlife Alliance environmental protection at Shinta Mani Wild. The Bamboo collection was created as a homage to the sustainable nature of bamboo, a fast-growing, robust material that can be used in furniture, building and crafts in place of the virgin forests that are illegally logged in the areas surrounding Shinta Mani Wild. Priced at US$26,375 it is designed for the big-hearted not the faint-hearted. Or take an Amaranthine Orchids earring. At USD 28,680 they protect 100% of Shinta Mani Wild forest and its wildlife (843 acres) for 66 days.
Wyndham joins the collection with Trademark
Wyndham's Tryp Fortitude Valley Hotel, Brisbane Wyndham has become the latest global hotel group to launch a "collection" - a group of properties that retain their independent identity whilst harnessing the support and benefits of a large chain. The company's new Trademark Hotel Collection is designed for "upper-midscale and above" hotels. At launch, the brand’s pipeline includes more than 50 hotels, including existing properties and new-builds in "top urban markets around the world". The collection becomes Wyndham’s 19th hotel brand. It will be positioned alongside the company's modern lifestyle brands, such as Tryp by Wyndham and the newly-acquired Dazzler and Esplendor. "The Trademark Hotel Collection is the next step in our mission to flip the script on existing expectations and champion all hoteliers by offering them an independent choice outside of the current luxury and upscale options available," said Lisa Checchio, Wyndham’s vice president of brand marketing and insights. The majority of the world's major hotel groups have launched a high-end soft-brand in recent years, such as Marriott's Autograph Collection, Hilton's Curio Collection, AccorHotels' MGallery, Carlson Rezidor's Quorvus Collection and Hyatt's Unbound Collection. But these are almost exclusively targeted at the top-end of the market; even Best Western's BW Premier Collection is classed as an upscale brand. Wyndham's Trademark Hotel Collection breaks the mould by targeting the upper-midscale sector. "The explosion of soft brands in the last several years has been focused on luxury and upscale hoteliers - with demand still growing at a rate of nearly 20% - leaving a market void for independent hoteliers in the upper-midscale segment," said Chip Ohlsson, Wyndham’s chief development officer. "Wyndham is the only hotel company positioned to champion upper-midscale-and-above independent hoteliers so they can compete in an ever-changing distribution environment with brand-backed support and guest recognition and loyalty." Trademark will allow hotel owners to access the company's global support network, including sales, revenue management, training, marketing and distribution. Member hotels will also participate in the company's loyalty programme, Wyndham Rewards.

Nick Smart, vice president, development, UK, Ireland & Nordics, Hilton, said: “Iceland is an incredibly popular travel destination and we are excited to expand our portfolio of properties in Reykjavik, as well as bring the first internationally branded hotel to the Icelandic countryside in Akureyri. Hilton‘s lifestyle brands have consistently generated opportunities for growth in European markets and, together with owners like Bohemian Hotels ehf., we are excited to further establish our presence in Iceland.” Akureyri "Skáld" Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton, will grace the picturesque Hafnarstræti street in the heart of Akureyri. Anticipated to open its doors in summer 2025, the property will offer 70 meticulously designed rooms, blending modern comforts with a nod to Iceland's rich cultural heritage. The hotel will feature a tranquil lounge and lobby bar, an all-day restaurant with an outdoor courtyard, and an innovative social club concept. The area has become a key tourism attraction due to its proximity to the Diamond Circle and Arctic Circle, perfect for whale watching or observing the spectacular Northern Lights. A second property located in Brietartún, Reykjavík, is slated to open in spring 2026, offering premium lifestyle accommodation under one of Hilton´s brands, with more details to be revealed later this year. Situated adjacent to the historic Freemasons' Hall and the vibrant Hlemmur area, the 170-key property will be a testament to Iceland's commitment to sustainability and innovation in urban development. With its emphasis on natural materials and thoughtful design, the hotel will offer guests a truly immersive experience in Icelandic hospitality. Magnea Thorey Hjalmarsdottir, managing director of Bohemian Hotels ehf, said: "We are thrilled to join forces with Hilton with the signing of two new hotels in Iceland. Both properties will offer guests modern upscale accommodation options in two key Icelandic tourist destinations, and we are confident the hotels will attract a large number of visitors, looking to take in some of the country´s breathtaking sights." The properties will further bolster Hilton´s existing portfolio of four hotels in Iceland: Reykjavik Konsulat Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton, Canopy by Hilton Reykjavik City Centre, Iceland Parliament Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton and Hilton Reykjavik Nordica.
