Peninsula Hotels will remove shark’s fin soup from its menus as of 1 January. It will however, uphold banquet bookings involving the controversial dish, made before 21 November, reports AFP.
Pressure is mounting on hotels and restaurants serving the dish as the practice poses a serious threat to the global shark population and contradicts efforts to adopt sustainable business practices.
Peninsula Hotels Chief Executive Officer Clement Kwok hopes the decision will contribute to marine preservation and that other members of the hospitality industry will follow suit.
