Carnival Corporation & plc has responded to a growing interest in cruising in Japan by repositioning its Sun Princess to the region from April to July 2013. The 87-day program features a total of nine cruises, on seven different itineraries and will operate from both Yokohama and Kobe. The itineraries have been fully customized to the Japanese vacation market and approximately 18,000 passengers are expected to cruise on the 77,000 ton 2022 passenger ship. Carnival have also announced it will open an office there which will be Tokyo based and will be run by Eiko Kijima who will also be a board member of Carnival Japan .
The move marks the latest effort by U.S.- based cru
ise lines to divert attention from the U.S. domestic market to international and rely less on the U.S. source market .
