Qantas has released a statement reiterating its desire to reach a mutual agreement with revolting worker unions, and is encouraging them to agree to the offer which has been on the table since March. The offer includes a 3% pay increase each year for three years and other improvements to conditions. The union, however, has not accepted this offer and continues to make “unreasonable demands”, said the flag carrier.
Qantas Group Executive Operations Lyell Strambi said; “Qantas licensed aircraft maintenance engineers are already the highest paid in the world. The union is demanding guarantees that old work practices remain in place despite new generation aircraft requiring less maintenance, less often.
“If this was agreed to it would make Qantas significantly less competitive and hold us back from introducing modern maintenance techniques used by airlines around the world.”
