Fresh from its drydock refurbishment in Singapore, the Azamara Journey cruise liner docked in Hong Kong for the first time this week.
The cruise ship arrived in Hong Kong on Monday as part of an eight-night cruise from Singapore, with calls at Ho Chi Minh City and Halong Bay. The voyage forms part of the ship’s maiden Asian season.
On arrival in Hong Kong, an official ceremony was held onboard the ship, with traditional plaque exchanges between the Azamara Journey’s Captain Johannes Tysse and local government officials including Philip Yung, Hong Kong’s Commissioner for Tourism.
“It is my great pleasure to celebrate the maiden call of Azamara Journey to Hong Kong. With the completion of the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal in the middle of this year and our new tourism offerings, Hong Kong stands ready to welcome more cruises from Azamara as well as other cruise lines in the years to come,” Commissioner Yung said.
Prior to setting sail for Hong Kong, the Azamara Journey recently underwent a refurbishment that included the addition of new soft-furnishings in all public spaces, new mattresses and veranda furniture in staterooms, a resurfaced pool and new sun loungers on the outer decks. The Casino Bar also was expanded, while the spa and fitness centre were enhanced with a new steam room, showers, and gym equipment. In addition, two new F&B options were added; a caviar and champagne bar within the Aqualina restaurant, and a new Chef’s Table concept.
Azamara Journey’s Asian season will run until April 2013, offering a range of 14- to 17- night itineraries from Hong Kong, Tianjin and Singapore.
