Royal Caribbean getting into Olympic spirit

The leisure facilities onboard Oasis of the Seas

In celebration of British Olympian Mo Farah winning two gold medals, Royal Caribbean has announced that it is to waive the 5km race entry fee for anyone who books a place on the Royal 5K cruise before 17 August.

The race, which is now in its second year, is open to anyone sailing aboard the Oasis of the Seas, and will be held in Philipsburg, St. Maarten on 4 December 2012. The fee is normally US$25.

The cruise itself has a wider programme of running related activities and events including seminars and lectures from professional athletes, expert professional training, beach workouts and speed tests on the onboard running track.

“Mo Farah’s electrifying performance has inspired the runner in all of us,” said Dominic Paul, vice president of Royal Caribbean International Europe. “With interest in our Royal Caribbean Runners groups really taking off and the fitness facilities onboard our ships busier than ever, we thought what better way to show our support for Team GB than by waiving the entry fee for this year’s Royal 5K race. From sports courts to surf simulators, making investments that get people active has always been a key part of Royal Caribbean International’s business and we’re thrilled to be paying tribute to one of our country’s finest athletes in hopes of encouraging experienced runners and novices alike to join us on a running themed holiday at sea.”

The seven-night Caribbean cruise will call at the Bahamas, St. Thomas, Philipsburg before returning back to Fort Lauderdale on 7 December.
