Royal Caribbean docks in Bali for the very first time

Royal Caribbean marked a milestone today, 27th February, as its vessel Anthem of the Seas docked in Bali, Indonesia for the first time ever. This was made possible by Royal Caribbean’s partnership with PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo). Initially planned as a tendering stop, guests may enjoy the convenience of docking directly in Benoa in Bali, and this is expected to enhance their overall experience.  The fruit of a shared commitment This historic milestone is the result of a 14-year-long partnership between Royal Caribbean and Pelindo that reflects their shared commitment to advancing cruise tourism in the region.  With its rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes, Bali has always been a highlight for travelers, and this itinerary update will further enhance the guest experience as a marquee destination. Pelindo president-director Arief Suhartono said: “The ability to dock alongside in Benoa is a game-changer for Bali as a cruise destination, demonstrating the port’s growing capabilities to welcome some of the world’s largest and most advanced ships, such as the Anthem of the Seas.” Further strengthening Royal Caribbean’s presence in the region, Ovation of the Seas will follow with a scheduled docking in Bali in April 2025.

Royal Caribbean International partners with the MARES Centre for ecosystem restoration

Royal Caribbean International entered a new partnership with the MARES Centre last 30th January in keeping with its goal of sustainable operations whilst actively taking part in the conservation of nature. The agreement is focussed around the restoration and conservation of coastal ecosystems in Mahahual, Quintana Roo.  The collaboration is aligned with Royal Caribbean Group's SEA the Future commitment, which seeks to offer the best vacation experiences in a responsible manner, caring for the planet, and empowering communities whilst promoting innovation. A significant allocation Under the terms of the partnership, Royal Caribbean will allocate a fund of $50,000 US dollars, which will be focused on ecosystem restoration and educational activities.  The initiative includes a comprehensive project to restore mangroves, dunes, and seagrass beds which are essential for the conservation of coral reefs and other marine species.  The goal is to restore 20 hectares of critical ecosystems through actions such as the recovery of hydrological flow in mangroves, the replanting of native species on the coast and the active conservation of seagrass beds.  Involving the community To achieve these conservation goals, priority will be given to hiring local residents,as this will boost the local economy via direct employment and encourage community participation. The partnership also includes a strong environmental education and community training component that provides the community with tools and knowledge for sustainability and ecosystem restoration.  Initiatives range from educational workshops for children, the community ,and private sector employees, to training local women in diving and marine conservation. Restoration activities are scheduled to begin within this year, once the necessary preparations have been completed and the most suitable areas for the work have been confirmed. More details about the partnership and its results will be released throughout the coming months.

Exciting Early Arrival: Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas

The wait for the debut of Icon of the Seas in January 2024 felt endless for eager cruise enthusiasts, but for those waiting for her sister ship, Star of the Seas, the wait won’t be as long as expected. Royal Caribbean has announced that the ship will be delivered sooner than planned, allowing them to add two new sailings ahead of the originally scheduled inaugural voyage. Initially delayed with the first two cruises cancelled, Star of the Seas’ updated maiden voyage is now set for 31 August 2025, departing from Port Canaveral. Guests booked on this inaugural journey received the exciting news first, along with a special offer to consider. The announcement read, “We have an updated timeline for the arrival of Star of the Seas at Port Canaveral! Constructing such a large and amazing ship is challenging, and while delivery can sometimes be delayed, there are other times where we get to sail our new ship earlier.” The planned 31 August 2025 sailing will be a 7-night Western Caribbean itinerary, featuring special events, swag, and recognition. But that’s not all—two new “showcase sailings” have been added, departing on 23 August and 27 August. These 4-night sailings will include visits to Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s award-winning private island destination in the Bahamas. Guests already booked on the 31 August inaugural cruise have an exclusive opportunity to book one or both of these new showcase sailings or move their original booking to an earlier date if preferred. This opportunity opens on Thursday, 30 January 2025. Suite bookings will be held until 6 February as a courtesy for guests wishing to adjust or expand their travel plans, while other stateroom categories will be available though not guaranteed to be the exact same stateroom. There will be no additional charge for moving to an earlier sailing date, and the cruise fare rate will be prorated to the shorter 4-night rate if guests are not remaining on the first full sailing as well. What to Expect on the New Sailings While the two new “showcase sailings” for Star of the Seas may not have all the bells and whistles of an official inaugural cruise, travellers are sure to enjoy special moments onboard. The crew will welcome their first guests with a celebratory atmosphere, and Sailor, the ship’s Official Dog Officer, will likely be present for greetings. Some offerings, such as shows or other onboard entertainment, may not be available for these earlier cruises—this is a common risk when booking an inaugural cruise. However, the “4-Night Perfect Day” cruises may include a visit to Nassau, longer stays at CocoCay, or additional time spent at sea. Regardless of the exact itinerary, guests will have ample time to enjoy everything Star of the Seas has to offer, from phenomenal shows and exquisite eateries to the Thrill Island waterpark, the Crown’s Edge ropes course, the stunning interior promenade, and much more. Construction Progress Star of the Seas is currently under construction at the Meyer Turku shipyard in southern Finland. Despite the early delivery announcement, the ship still needs to pass sea trials, undergo final outfitting, and make its first transatlantic crossing before welcoming guests aboard. Once operational, the magnificent vessel will be homeported year-round from Port Canaveral, offering alternating Eastern Caribbean and Western Caribbean itineraries, all visiting Perfect Day at CocoCay. Stay tuned for more updates and prepare to set sail on an unforgettable journey with Star of the Seas!

Royal Caribbean Group released its 2024 financial results on 28th January, reporting Earnings per Share (EPS) of $10.94 and Adjusted EPS of $11.80 at the end of the year.  These results were better than the company's guidance due to stronger pricing on close-in demand and continued strength in onboard revenue, partially offset by higher stock-based compensation expense driven by an increase in the company's stock price during the fourth quarter.  The strong demand for the company's vacation experiences continues to accelerate into 2025 with Adjusted EPS expected to be in the range of $14.35 to $14.65 per share.  The guidance range includes a headwind of $0.65 related to foreign exchange and fuel rates, compared to the last earnings call.  Royal Caribbean Group president and chief executive Jason Liberty attributed the company’s excellent performance to its team's flawless execution which drove elevated demand across brands, along with the early achievement of the Group’s Trifecta goals, and meaningful progress with regard to key priorities. Gross Margin Yields increased 13.8% as-reported, and Net Yields increased 7.3% in Constant Currency (7.0% as-reported) when compared to the fourth quarter of 2023.  Load factor for the quarter was 108%, while Net Yield growth exceeded the company's guidance mainly due to higher pricing across all key products and better onboard revenue. Gross Cruise Costs per APCD increased 7.2% as-reported, compared to 2023. NCC, excluding Fuel, per APCD increased 13.5% in Constant Currency (13.4% as-reported), when compared to 2023, and includes 340 bps related to higher stock-based compensation expense driven by the increase in stock price, compared to prior guidance.
